Stroke Care Homeward Bound
According to a recent report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, half of older adults hospitalized in the US for stroke in 2000 were sent home rather than to a long-term care facility. After controlling for stroke severity, patients who receive health care in their homes function better than those living in nursing homes or rehabilitation centres, or those sent home without any additional care. Home health care is also much less expensive than the live-in options.
